The Apartment Module (w/Conversion Floor) is the third component to the housing system. This module offers facilities the greatest utility as it provides vertical access between the top and bottom compartment of an Apartment Module.
Vertical access is provided via a partially retractable cage floor. The accessory is called a “conversion floor” because it converts the Apartment Module (one-over-one) into a hybrid Activity Module (single, full-height enclosure).
The module maintains the wire mesh cage front, and the squeeze back mechanism found on the Apartment Module, thus it serves a different function than the Activity Module. Furthermore, when the conversion floor is opened, the center divider is positioned forward (towards the cage front), so the nonhuman primate can forage and play with enrichment devices. Meanwhile, this module provides perches at three different elevations, unlike the standard Apartment Module & Activity Module.
The Apartment Module (w/Conversion Floor) has two-transfer doors located on each side panel. It integrates fully with the other modules for maximum operational flexibility. Likewise, transfer doors and conversion floors can be used in combination to provide variation and increase complexity inside the enclosure!
The Apartment Modules (w/Conversion Floor) is available in three sizes: 6.0 ft2, 9.0 ft2, and 11.0 ft2 of floor space. The 11.0 ft2 module features a partially and/or fully removable floor, to accommodate the internal height requirements of an E.U. Enclosure. Popular cage options include:
- Automatic Watering System
- Flush System
- Introduction/Grooming Doors
- View Ports
- Forage Feeders
Each cage compartment is equipped with a small, horizontal (side-sliding) door. The side-sliding door was designed to accommodate safe pole and collar handling by locking open at multiple increments. This safety feature provides easy access to the animal with the capture pole, but prevents aggressive animals from escaping during pole and collar training sessions. Additionally, the entire front door is hinged, so it swings open providing complete access the interior. Custom cage fronts are available upon request.
The four acrylic transfer doors expand linear floor space to facilitate social housing and increase complexity inside the enclosure. Introduction/Grooming Doors are offered as options. They replace the clear acrylic transfer doors to provide various levels of contact between animals in connected modules.
Trigger latch allows one-handed operation of the squeeze back mechanism. The mechanism locks in place at one-inch intervals throughout its full movement range.
Feeder cups have hinged lids that snap closed to reduce feed wastage. Each feeder has an acrylic feed observation window to quickly monitor feed consumption.
The modules lock in place by resting on two front legs via a patent protected retractable docking system. The two rear casters are fixed, to secure the back of the modules, while the transfer doors are opened. Four swivel casters with a side-locking device are offered an option.
