Bio-Containment Housing

Concept:

The bio-containment module was designed as a cost effective means of providing isolation capabilities at the room level using the facility HVAC system to maintain negative air pressure. A stainless steel shell and 3/8" acrylic door form a barrier around the animal cage, separating the animal environment from the room environment.

The bio-containment module incorporates many of the design features used in the Apartment Module to promote the psychological well-being of your animals.

Ventilation:
Each module has two exhaust vents (one per compartment) in the back. The compartments operate independently to reduce the possibility of cross contamination between compartments.

HVAC system connects to the unit via 2” exhaust ducts in the rear to maintain negative pressure inside each cage compartment. A 5 ¼” x 10 ½” filter housing is provided on each door to filter the supply air if desired. The number of air changes per hour will depend on the facility HVAC system and the desired level of filtration.

Sealed Doors:
The cage compartments have one transfer door on each side panel to safely transfer primates to clean cages. Rubber gaskets seal and draw latches provide an airtight seal when the transfer doors are closed.

The shell is constructed out of stainless steel and a 3/8” cast acrylic front door with tension control knobs, and rubber gasket seals to keep the cage doors locked and airtight. The cast acrylic doorframe lifts off the hinges for cage washing.

Casters:
Heavy-duty casters provide mobility from the experimental site to the cage washroom for easy decontamination. All casters have locks to prevent the module from moving unexpectedly.
